Application Scenarios
Use MenuBox:
MenuBox is used by:
- Commercial publishers of CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs (often millions of copies, e.g. software products, advertising, documentation, learnware, magazine cover disks)
- Software developers (MenuBox is used as a launcher window, e.g. in the Start/Programs menu, Quick Launch toolbar, etc. or as a "kiosk mode" custom browser window)
- Corporate users who wish to wrap websites and applications
- Individuals creating their own CDs and DVDs (for personal use or limited distribution, e.g. photo/video albums, copy of personal website and other published work, reference, etc.)
- Computer users (customized dock, often with very creative skin artwork, for quick access to frequently-referenced items)
With MenuBox you can:
- Launch programs and open documents, also taking into account the user's system architecture (x86 or x64) and language
- Create a powerful presentation or user interface by using HTML instead of having to learn to use a new authoring language or presentation system. The MenuBox HTML browser container features a set of methods which allows you to open documents, launch executables, close the window, etc., from your HTML code.
- Automatically open a custom menu window (also sometimes referred to as "CD browser", "front-end", "launcher", "dock" or "teaser") when your CD or DVD is inserted (everything is handled by MenuBox, does not require additional viewers/players)
- Automatically display an HTML (or PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Flash, AVI, MPEG, etc.) document or other file when your CD is inserted (MenuBox works behind the scenes, making sure that the correct program is launched)
- Create Desktop or Start menu extensions (e.g. to use a single shortcut to activate a wider selection of choices) which can be redistributed and installed with your products
- Use conditional code for failsafe actions: open a certain document only if an appropriate viewing application is available and meets minimum version requirements, otherwise installing the required software or reverting to a different action (e.g. fall back to a MenuBox window, or display a message, or open a different document)
- Open documents and launch applications overcoming some of the limitations of the FS Command "exec" in Macromedia Flash Projector
